World Language Video Collection and Policy Videos are shown in our World Language classes to supplement our textbook and curriculum, to expose students to additional vocabulary and a variety of accents and to improve understanding of culture, geography and history. World Language teachers sparingly show G or PG rated animated films. These films are dubbed in the target language, generally followed up with questions or activities and usually only shown for 10-15 minutes at a time. Some of these animated films include Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Shrek 1-3, Shark Tales, Finding Nemo. Students typically watch 1-2 of these films over the course of an entire year. World Language teachers may also choose from a collection of documentaries that are not rated, but have been reviewed and approved at a site level. These documentaries are related to travel, culture and art. In Spanish levels 2 and 3 students may watch documentaries about the art of Mexico, specifically the art of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. These artists painted their personal struggles and those of their nation. Some of the works of art depict scenes of violence that may not be appropriate for very young children, but we feel are appropriate for 7th grade and older students. If you have any questions or concerns about our video collection or policy please contact your child’s World Language teacher. |
