We will also have a Valentine Post Office set up before the show so that we can deliver Valentines.  We ask that if you will be making Valentines, please include everyone.  A list of students who will have a Valentine mailbox will be available in February.  Sign-up in the hallway by Amy’s office if you are planning an act for the Talent Show program and/or bring treats for the event.

Announcements

Thank you – for Bringing in S.T.E.A.C. donations and Helping with Craft Day

We had 9 full boxes of food and toiletries!  STEAC was very appreciative of our donations, especially all the toothbrushes.  Craft Day was a tremendous success thanks to our MANY volunteers.   Thank you SO much for all your help!

Spring ’07 Master Agreements

Have you signed a new Master Agreement for the spring semester?  If not, please talk to your teacher.  State law requires that a new agreement be signed for every semester that a student participates in independent study.

2007 DSIS Homeschool Directory

A first draft, bright blue copy of the DSIS Homeschool Directory will be placed in your DSIS mail box.  All families that filled out the directory information at the beginning of the school year should be on the directory.  Amy needs help with editing; please let her know what corrections are needed.  A final draft, card stock version of the directory should be in your DSIS mail box by the end of January.

Sutter’s Fort Update

We are on the trail, with four months to go until we reach Sutter’s Fort.  Most students have selected the historical character s/he will portray at the fort.  Each student will research the history of his/her historical character, dressing as them and acting as that person during our stay at the fort.  At times finding information on a lesser known person can be difficult, be sure to talk to your teacher if you are having trouble learning about the life your historical character lived.

Station Volunteers: we will be assigning stations this month.  One job we still need a volunteer to help in is photography.  If you enjoy taking pictures please let Christine, Cathy, or Amy know and we can tell you more.  DSIS teachers have applied for several grants to help defer costs, we will hear back by the middle of this month if we will get help for this funding.  We will need to analyze our budget and look into possible fundraising soon.  Look for more information about this to come soon.

Upcoming Sutter’s Fort Dates:

  • Saturday, March 10 at Sutter’s Fort - Parent/Teacher Training Day
  • Wednesday, March 14th  - Mini Museum Projects at DSIS open house
  • Thursday, April 26 - Pre-visit Fieldtrip to the Fort (to observe another ELP in progress)
  • Date TBA - Historical Character Presentations and Pictures at DSIS
  • Tuesday, May 8 to Wednesday, May 9 – Living History Trip to Fort
