About Ms. Kukis

Ms. Kukis has lived in Sacramento her whole life. She attended Victory Christian School in elementary school. When she was in elementary school she loved to write stories. If you're lucky she may show you some of them! She especially loved writing ghost stories and science fiction. Her favorite books were "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "Anne of Green Gables." She also won the school spelling bee in 6th grade because she spelled the winning word: arsenic. However, she lost the city spelling bee because she spelled "rhythm" with only one "h." She has never forgotten how to spell it since!

Ms. Kukis went to high school at Casa Roble Fundamental School. She studied Spanish, wrote for the school newspaper, took pictures for the school yearbook, and acted in school plays. Her favorite part was Helena in "A Midsummer Night's Dream." In high school, Ms. Kukis was a lifeguard and a swim instructor.

After high school, Ms. Kukis went to Sierra College where she loved learning about marine biology (ocean animals), history, and graphic design. She was the editor of the Sierra College Outlook, the school newspaper.

Ms. Kukis finished college at California State University Sacramento (CSUS). At CSUS she loved studying sciences like biology, astronomy, geology, and physics. She worked very hard to earn A's, but she got one B in a class called physiology. In college, Ms. Kukis worked at Adelante High School in a computers class. She earned a BA degree in Liberal Studies. When she graduated, her second grade teacher, Miss Boswell, came to her graduation party.

Ms. Kukis stayed at CSUS to earn a teaching credential in Multiple Subjects. Her first teaching job was as a substitute teacher for a first grade class. She was a little nervous. Three first graders had “accidents” on her first day! Maybe they were a little nervous too. The school nurse ran out of extra pants. But everything turned out fine, and Ms. Kukis loved teaching first grade. She has taught 1st grade, 2nd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade.
