Davis Joint Unified School District, working in collaboration with the Area III Writing Project, has established several writing rubrics for students in Kindergarten through sixth grade.  These rubrics are used to set goals for our students and to guide instruction.  Three times each year, students are asked to respond to an “on-demand” writing prompt.  Students’ responses are scored by the grade level teachers using the rubrics to identify areas of focus for writing skill development.  Parents and students are encouraged to use these rubrics as a guide (not for scoring) during writing assignments throughout the year.  The Davis Developmental Rubric is geared towards Kindergarten and first grade and the DJUSD Kid Friendly 6 Traits Rubric is for third grade through sixth grade.
