Davis Senior High School Career Technical Education Projects

cte imageIntroduction

Davis Joint Unified School District received $6.2MM in facility grants from the State of California to improve and expand three Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways at Davis Senior High School (DSHS). These grants were awarded just one year after DJUSD’s largest expansion of CTE program offerings to 14 unique career pathways across six different industry sectors, with each pathway specially designed to increase student engagement and college/career preparedness.

Improvements include enhancements for the Engineering/Robotics, Transportation and Agriculture programs at DSHS.

The Engineering/Robotics Pathway scope includes 7,800 sq ft of additional instructional space and new outdoor learning spaces.

The Transportation Pathway scope includes construction of an additional vehicle repair bay specific to electric vehicles, a new canopy shade structure in front of all vehicle bays and an additional restroom.

The Agriculture Pathway scope includes improvements to existing shops, improvements to the barn and greenhouse, a shade structure and improvements to the animal care area.

All three projects completed a thorough site staff engagement in the programming phase and thorough community outreach throughout the design phase.

Background

Each of the CTE Facilities Grants required a 1:1 funding match, which DJUSD was able to support through the passage of Measure M ($150 million) approved by Davis voters in 2018.

The DSHS CTE grant projects related to the Engineering/Robotics, Transportation and Agriculture pathways were completed in May 2023 and are now a part of the many exciting facility improvements at the DSHS campus.
