Interdistrict Transfers

Davis Joint Unified School District Interdistrict Transfer Request 2026-2027 School Year
Interdistrict Transfer Permits (IDT) are required for all students residing outside of the DJUSD boundaries and wish to attend a DJUSD School. This does not apply to students attending Da Vinci Charter Academy, who are not required to have an interdistrict transfer.

DJUSD is NO longer accepting Interdistrict transfers for the 2025-2026 school year.

DJUSD will begin accepting new Interdistrict Transfer applications for the 2026-2027 school year on January 5, 2026.  Enrollment paperwork (including a choice program application) may be submitted only after DJUSD approves the inter-district transfer.

For NEW Interdistrict Transfers, the Procedure is as follows:

  1. Request an Interdistrict Transfer from your District of Residence and follow their directions when submitting the application. If the District of Residence approves the request, they will send the form directly to DJUSD Student Support Services Department.
  2. For all students, grades TK-12 complete the DJUSD IDT form found here.
  3. For students entering grades 1-12, upload all required documents. TK and Kindergarten students are NOT required to submit these documents.
  4. Once the form has been completed and ALL documents have been submitted, DJUSD will review your IDT request.
  5. Approvals are done on a rolling basis beginning April 2, 2026.
  6. If your request is approved, you will be notified of the next steps to enroll your student in DJUSD.
*Families who need to renew their current IDT  (and are already DJUSD students) do not need to complete the steps above.

DJUSD retains the right to determine school assignments based on space availability.

Required documents for NEW IDTs for students not currently enrolled in DJUSD (grades 1-12) are:

  • Copy of a attendance record for prior two years
  • Copy of report card/transcript for prior two years
  • Copy of student discipline record for prior two years
  • Statement of verification of parent/guardian employment if the parent/guardian works in Davis for 10 or more hours per week

NOTE: Please enroll/maintain enrollment for your student in your district of residence until you receive an acceptance from DJUSD.

Applications may be denied and/or IDTs may be revoked based on the following items:

  • No available space in the grade, school, or program requested (includes special education)
  • Failure to maintain passing grades
  • Failure to uphold school behavior standards
  • Failure to maintain adequate attendance
  • False or misleading information on IDT application

Interdistrict Transfer for a Student whose Parent/Guardian Works in Davis:
District
residency status may be granted to a student if at least one Parent/Guardian is physically employed within district boundaries for a minimum of 10 hours during the school week if there is space available in the requested grade level, school, or program (including Special Education). Once a student is admitted, they will not be required by DJUSD to reapply for enrollment in subsequent years unless there is some reason to suspect that the parent/guardian no longer works in Davis. Please check the box on your application to show that you are employed within Davis City limits and submit a statement of verification of employment.

Appeals:
If an initial interdistrict transfer request is denied, the Parent/Guardian may appeal the District’s decision within 30 calendar days from the date of the District’s denial letter.  Appeals can be sent to Stephanie Yandel at [email protected].

The Board of Education recognizes that a key component of successful education is parent engagement and encourages all families to become involved in district programs and schools. There are many ways to become involved and contribute to the district including, but not limited to, serving on school site councils, PTA, PTO's, donating directly to the school district, or to foundations affiliated with the district.

If you have questions about the IDT process, please contact Stephanie Yandel in Student Support Service at [email protected].
