Superintendent's Student Advisory

advisory groupLast year, Superintendent Best convened the Superintendent’s Student Advisory in response to ongoing racist, antisemitic and discriminatory incidents across the District. The advisory was formed to address harmful language, symbols and behavior, and its student leaders have been powerful partners in guiding our response with intention. Together, they developed the “Know Better. Do Better. Be Better.” campaign, launched this year with a pledge for students, staff, and families.

Know Better. Do Better. Be Better. - The DJUSD Commitment

pledge logoThe purpose of this pledge is to build a commitment across our entire district community to create an environment where every student and every adult feels a sense of belonging and is free from harm. We know that any form of harassment creates unsafe and hostile environments created by any form of harassment that are not aligned with our district’s mission, vision, and core values: to promote welcoming, safe and inclusive educational and working spaces that celebrate the strengths of a diverse community. All students and staff have the right to participate fully in the educational process free from discrimination and harassment as stated in Federal law, California law, DJUSD Board policy and Student Handbooks.

This pledge will be communicated in a variety of ways including through classroom-based lessons, school handbooks, school-wide communication, districtwide communication, caregiver communication etc. and will continue to be reiterated throughout the school year. All staff, students and families are invited to join in the spirit and enactment of this commitment, and to sign the pledge if they choose to.
