It’s swim season! Keep your family safe, ensure everyone learns how to swim. Enroll in age-appropriate swim lessons and learn more about water safety from the American Red Cross.

The American Skin Cancer Foundation estimates 80% of lifetime sun exposure occurs during childhood. Reduce your risk: limit outdoor time between 10am-4pm when the sun’s rays are strongest; apply sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher 30 minutes before going into the sun and re-apply every 2-3 hours; cover up with protective clothing, hats with brims, and sunglasses.

Ticks and mosquitoes can spread vector-borne infections such as Lyme disease and West Nile virus. Reduce your risk: wear long sleeves and pants; use mosquito repellant on exposed skin and clothing when mosquitoes are active; check your body for ticks after spending the day in wooded or tall grassy areas; if you find a tick, remove it with tweezers and disinfect the area; consider testing the tick.
